Research Vision and Strategy

Research contributes content to teaching. Any quality teaching draws on quality research. Keeping this in mind, DBMS College of Education engages its faculty in sound research, by providing infrastructure and other support services.

The following are the main objectives :

• to promote multidisciplinary research in education, arts, languages, social sciences, basic sciences and applied areas of sciences.
• to enhance the research capabilities of DBMS College of Education by engaging faculty in research that integrates the education of a diverse population of students especially; the first generation learners and the underprivileged.
• to encourage and support socially relevant and need based research coupled with human values.
• to provide a rich intellectual environment for collaborative research among faculty and students.
• to develop research and educational collaborations with larger community, including minority serving colleges and university, other universities and institutions of higher learning.
• to establish partnerships, collaborations and outreach that amplify the vision of DBMS College of Education.

Research is the back bone of academics. For the promotion of research, institute has Research and Development Cell.

R&D Cell Overview

R&D Cell which aims to nurture research culture in the College by promoting research in newly emerging and challenging frontier areas of Education, Science and Humanities.
It encourages the students and faculty to undertake the research in newly emerging frontier areas including multidisciplinary fields. This enhances the general research capability of budding technocrats by way of participating in conferences, seminars, workshops, project competition, etc.

ACTION RESEARCH

The teaching profession is a dynamic sector which requires reform to enable the nation’s progress. DBMS College of Education performs action research in an effective manner so that the existing drawbacks in the classroom proceedings can be rectified. Special training programmes and seminars are conducted to help the students to know how and what about Action Research. Through a proper interactive interview and data collection, the student is asked to prepare a project and feedback is also taken from them post report. It is a progressive method of ensuring student – teacher interaction and participative teaching learning process.

CASE STUDY

A practical and holistic approach is best suited for the contemporary educational problems. DBMS college of Education employs the method of case study to find out, evaluate and rectify them effectively. The authority takes into consideration the unique teaching -learning situation of each student. Through an in-depth study and detailed analysis of their needs and problems, the students develop to their fullest in the conducive environment.

The faculty members assign this project normally when the students go for practice teaching. During their visit, they identify a case and prepares a report. It is submitted to the research committee for plagiarism etc. and finally goes for submission to the concerned faculty.

Code of Ethics in Research

DBMS College of Education, Jamshedpur gives utmost importance to encouraging its faculty to follow ethical guidelines established by the college in carrying out the research activities under which the college has established internal ethics committee for research involving education as the main subject. The college make use of the faculty with Ph.D to help and guide the research scholars as and when required. All the research related work, research articles, paper presentation, chapter writing in book or other similar work which reflect the highest element of academic integrity and originality is observed as per stipulation of the college and UGC.

Plagiarism check is another important requirement that the college insists and the Research committee takes care of it. The committee encourages to conduct National/International Seminars, Conferences and to publish Books related to research where ethics in research is an integral part. Awareness in research is also created to faculty members by arranging FDP’s, talks and participation in Seminars. Research committee also welcomes if some other college uses the brain of our college in organizing a seminar.

DBMS College of Education shall consider all incidents of misconducts of research seriously and shall ensure initiating of enquiry process of such misconduct. Action research and case study needs to be original and if found copied are taken seriously. The college strives to promote and maintain outcome based research which has social relevance.

POLICY ON CONSULTANCY

INTRODUCTION

DBMS was established in Jamshedpur before the Independence in 1944. Its main purpose was to do social service. The urgency was felt by the trust of good , trained teachers in the town and therefore this college was set up. Since its inception, it is trying its best in this regard.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  • Consultancy services may be offered to neighboring schools, government and private schools, B.Ed colleges, university, NGO’s etc.
  • Consultancy services offered may cover a variety of activities.
  • The consultancy and related services should not interfere with the normal teaching and research in the college.
  • The faculty or the group of faculty engaged in the consultancy work shall report to the Principal/ IQAC periodically.
  • 90% of the consultancy fee is for the consultant while 10% shoul be given to the college.
  • DBMS College of Education encourages faculty members to do consultancy service to support external engagements that facilitate knowledge and expertise transfer contributing to economic and social impact. Such activities serve to link institute and its faculty members more closely to the society through meaningful research, consultancy and extention activities. Being a new college, it is advised by the management to do more of such activities for the betterment of the college. The college will review the policy from time to time depending on the need and circumstances.
